Max's Weekly Musings
Vol. 11, No. 29, for the week of Nov. 20 - 27, 2008
Thanksgiving

Hey, I just thought I would let you know that I had not died.  It has been a very busy fall season.  I have been teaching classes four nights a week.  Of course that means that I have many papers to read and to mark each week.  It was budget time and because of the failing financial markets, our gift income has declined.  So, when one budget was prepared...the Board said, "Max, you need to cut it some more."  It is hard to cut a budget that has is bare-boned already.  But, my office administrator and I did make some difficult cuts.  Now we will see how God will bring in the funds of the coming year.

There were many times I was ready to write a Musing...but then something else came up...and, well, you know how it ended.  But my writing has continued.  I would encourage you to visit my blog site which I have called "Christianity for Today." It is a collection of my thoughts on the Word, the world, and how they intersect.  I have written about wild turkeys and roller coasters...about politics and prophecy.  Anyway, that blog site has sort of replaced the Musings...at least for now.  You can visit every week at www.villageschoolstoday.blogspot.com or simply go to our website - www.vsb.net - and you can link to the blog site.

But, as I sit here on a very cold November Thursday afternoon, I wanted to send you my greetings for a wonderfully blessed Thanksgiving Season.  As I wrote in my blog this week: If our thanksgiving is dependent upon what we hold in our hands, then it will probably be pretty short this year; but if it is dependent upon what we hold in our hearts, then praise should flow from our lips to a God who has so richly blessed us.  Let me encourage you to read Ephesians 1:3-14 and Psalm 103 sometime during the next few days.  Make a list of what both Paul and David exclaim as being praise-worthy.  Then I think you, too, will cry out in praise to God for all He has done.

Well, I am off to Dallas on Sunday.  I am driving down with Merideth and Dan and the girls.  We hope to get there sometime on Monday afternoon.  Marlys has to work on Monday and Tuesday and will fly down on Wednesday morning.  Then we will all drive back on Saturday...hoping to get back home sometime on Sunday.  Our prayer is for good roads so driving will not be difficult.  But, this is late fall...and, well, let's not go down that road.

I wish for you a most blessed Thanksgiving.  May praise flow from your lips in gratitude to God.  And keep looking up...our redemption is drawing near!  Praise the Lord!
