What's New at Village Schools?
The Philogian - the November issue of our newsletter is now available.
Philogian via Email: We are considering making the Philogian available in pdf format, sent out via email. If you would be interested in receiving the electronic version, please send us a note at info at vsb.net, along with your e-mail address. This will enable us to save both printing and mailing costs. Such savings might help to provide a scholarship so another person could take the Village Schools class. We will evaluate the response we receive and let you know of our plans before the February edition. We will continue to send out the Philogian via regular mail, and If you wish to continue receiving it that way, you do not need to take any action.
Winter Class Schedule now available: Check out our winter calendar.
Village Schools Celebration Banquet
The Village Schools Board of Directors will be hosting a very special evening on April 24, 2009, celebrating the tenth year of Max Frazier's ministry at Village Schools of the Bible. Mark your calendars for this evening of food and fellowship.
Reader’s Club
The Reader's Club continues January 20, discussing The Shack, written by William Young. This book, which has stirred controversy, was written by the author to help his young family come to grips with the meaning of death and disappointment. No, it is not another Pilgrim's Progress, but it will invite you to grab more firmly upon the foundation of your faith.
The meeting is scheduled from 1:00-2:30 p.m. at the Village Center. Check here for discussion questions.
Understanding Prophecy - Brown Bag Lunch and Discussion
This monthly gathering provides a way for believers to dialogue about what is happening in their world and to try to glean some biblical answers. The discussions vary from economic issues to world politics to the deterioration in morality. We are coming to understand that God is completely in control of this world, orchestrating its events – even though they may be unfavorable to us – to bring about the coming of the King.
We invite you to bring your lunch and meet us the last Tuesday of the month at 11:30 am. We try to be adjourned by 1:00 pm, but that often depends upon the nature of the dialogue.
Upcoming dates include:
December (no luncheon scheduled)
January 27, 2009
February 24, 2009
March 31, 2009
April 28, 2009
May 26, 2009
Three books will guide our discussion: The Bible; Are We Living in the End Times?, written by Tim LaHaye; and The Apocalypse Code, written by Hank Hanegraaf. We will seek to better understand the principles that help us to relate what is happening in our world. Please call the Village Center office to register for these luncheons. Beverages will be furnished.
Village Schools Blog Spot: A blog titled, “Christianity for Today,” has been created. Find it at: www.villageschoolstoday.blogspot.com. Max will be posting periodical thoughts on what is happening in our world from a Christian perspective, biblical passages that have influenced his life, and general observations about what God is doing. He welcomes your comments as well.
Max's Musings - a weekly study on the Gospel of John.
Welcome to two New Churches
We welcome two new churches to the Village Schools family this fall: Annandale Evangelical Free Church (Monday nights) and Bethel Reformed Church in Princeton (Thursday nights). We are grateful for the vision of two Village School graduates – Teri Hyrkas and Tammy Creasy – for a class in their church in Princeton. We want to thank Pastor Calvin Friend and the staff at Bethel Reformed Church for making us feel so welcomed. We look forward to a wonderful time together in the Word.
The class at Annandale is the result of the encouragement of a young couple who had taken Village Schools at the Buffalo Bible Institute. Paul and Katie Johnson seized upon the opportunity of bringing VSB to their community. We also thank Pastor Dennis Johnson, Associate Pastor Kevin Groven, and the staff at Annandale Free Church for the warm welcome we have received. We also look forward to a blessed time sharing together.
We invite you to talk to your pastor or other church leaders about Village Schools. As you share your story they may catch the vision of how Village Schools classes can change lives and bring people into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. You might be the next Teri or Tammy, Paul or Katie that God might use.
Class Fees Reduced for the 2008-2009 school terms. We all are paying more and getting less. We pay more for groceries, but get fewer items. Gasoline prices seem to have no ceiling. Everything comes with a higher price-tag. Except…for Village Schools classes. To encourage students to take “Cover to Cover” classes, the Advisory Council rolled back fees to $90 for individuals and $140 for couples. This represents a 25% reduction in fees. But…you will still receive the quality of biblical instruction you have come to expect from Village Schools staff. “Paying less…getting more” – now there is something we all could benefit from. Encourage your family members and friends to sign up for a Village Schools class nearby. You know their lives will be blessed and changed. Now you can also tell them that the costs have been reduced. Receiving a blessing from the Lord and saving money at the same time…that is an unbeatable combination.
BOOKS
Knowing and Growing: Reflections on the Chapters of the New Testament is the first volume of studies written by Max Frazier. The book is 560 pages in length, and features an outline, the identification of a key verse, and several devotional thoughts from each chapter of the New Testament. There is also space provided for the reader to write his or her own devotional thoughts as the chapter is read. The price for this book is $20 (plus shipping and handling). It can be ordered through the Village Schools office. It would make a great gift for that special person who wants to take the Bible more seriously. Order yours today.
